Carmet Recreation

Carmet is right next to Carmet Beach and Schoolhouse Beach on the Pacific Coast. Carmet Beach is a great fishing spot featuring a rugged rocky northern section and a sandy cove that curves to the south. A blufftop trail connects Carmet Beach with Schoolhouse Beach to Carmet’s north. This wider sandy beach is also an excellent fishing spot. Both beaches are part of the sprawling Sonoma Coast State Park, which extends over 17 miles of dramatic coastline between Jenner and Bodega Bay. Continue south from the sandy cove at Carmet Beach for more coastal exploration at Marshall Gulch Beach, Arched Rock Beach, and Coleman Beach. To the north of Schoolhouse Beach, Portuguese Beach is one of Sonoma County State Park’s longest and broadest sandy beaches. Scotty Creek Beach sits outside Sonoma County State Park’s boundaries at Portuguese Beach’s northern end with outstanding ocean views and a pastoral inland farming valley. Carmet is located roughly midway between the hamlet of Jenner and the town of Bodega Bay, both of which offer fantastic places to dine. Jenner highlights include coastal breakfast and lunch fare at Cafe Aquatica, Sonoma County wines at Tasting by the Sea Wine Bar, and refined land and sea cooking at the Jenner Inn’s Abalone Bar and River’s End Restaurant & Inn. Bodega Bay businesses include Gourmet Au Bay and Terrapin Creek for sophisticated seafood dining, East Shore Outfitters for all kinds of beach and outdoor wear, and Diekmann’s Bay Store and Pelican Plaza Grocery & Deli for groceries and delicious ready-to-eat foodstuffs. Carmet homes are also within easy reach of golfing at The Links at Bodega Harbor and Northwood Golf Club, as well as wine tastings at the many premier vineyards of Sonoma County Wine Country.
