Salmon Creek is a peaceful unincorporated community nestled between the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the community’s namesake creek. Located just one mile north of Bodega Bay and within walking distance of beautiful Sonoma Coast Beach, the Coast Highway runs alongside Salmon Creek to the east, providing convenient access to other nearby communities and attractions.

Salmon Creek is a small and serene community with a population of fewer than 100 people. There is no commercial development or business activity within the community, but homes are just a mile away from Bodega Bay’s restaurants, shops, and art galleries. Popular activities in the area include hiking or horseback riding along blufftop trails and through towering Redwood groves. The Pacific Ocean and nearby Bodega Bay also provide whale watching, fishing, kayaking, and surfing opportunities. Salmon Creek’s proximity to the Pacific Coast Highway makes it easy to get out and explore Sonoma County’s charming towns and hamlets. Salmon Creek is also within easy reach of several golf courses and the many Sonoma County Wine Country vineyards.
Sonoma Coast State Park extends over 17 miles of gorgeous coastal scenery around Salmon Creek, and many nearby beaches fall within its boundaries. To Salmon Creek’s north, South Salmon Creek State Beach is a peaceful coastal stretch with sandy beachfront extending into the Bodega Dunes. While the waves at South Salmon Creek Beach are too strong for swimming, skilled surfers ride the waves when conditions are right. A wide sand spit separating Salmon Creek from the Pacific Ocean is visible from South Salmon Creek Beach. Birds and seals can sometimes be spotted on the spit. On the north side of Salmon Creek, North Salmon Creek State Beach is a popular beachcombing destination and wildlife watching. North Salmon Creek State Beach also frequently offers excellent conditions for surfing. The inland Chanslor Ranch sits on a 381-acre nature preserve with rolling hillsides stretching along the north banks of Salmon Creek. Stables and guided horseback riding tours make Chanslor Ranch a fantastic spot for engaging in equestrian pursuits across majestic unspoiled scenery. The 1.1-mile Coastal Prairie Trail leads from Salmon Creek to Bodega Bay. At Bodega Bay, you can enjoy fabulous seafood dining at restaurants such as Gourmet Au Bay and Terrapin Creek. To the north of Salmon Creek, the tiny hamlet of Jenner offers waterfront wining and dining at Cafe Aquatica and Tasting by the Sea Wine Bar. Salmon Creek is also within easy reach of top golf courses, such as Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s Scottish-style 18-hole course at The Links at Bodega Harbor and Alister MacKensie’s redwood-flanked 9-hole course at Northwood Golf Club. Other nearby attractions include wine tasting at vineyards throughout Sonoma County Wine Country.
